Just published: Journeau's "Quatrième Sonatine" for piano
September 2025Maurice Journeau composed four sonatinas for piano, his own instrument, because this way of writing seemed attractive to him. The "Quatrième Sonatine" (tr: fourth sonatina) op. 26 was thus the last of this pianistic form, written in Paris during the Winter months of February-March 1940. Its initial title was "Sonatine Eclair" (tr: a swift sonatina) which finally became later a mere subtitle...
Just like the second sonatina op. 10, the work is shorter and - according to the composer - less difficult than the sonatinas op. 4 and op. 12. And, contrarily to the previous ones, it remained without any dedicatee.
I - Vif & Spirituel (tr: Allegro con spirito) (2'00")
II - Lent & Mystérieux (tr:Lento e Misterioso) (5'00")
III - Vif (tr:Vivace) (4'00)
Duration: 11'00"
Translation : Chantal Virlet
